AI credits on Spotify

Overview

Spotify supports AI credits that allow a select group of providers in beta to send contribution-level disclosures for AI-generated content. AI credits indicate when a specific role on a track was generated using AI.

What you can send

Providers who are part of the beta can send AI credits for any role that was fully AI-generated.

Examples:

  • Lyricist

  • Vocalist

  • Instrumentalist

  • Producer

AI credits apply at the contributor + role level, not the track level.

Artist messaging

If you collect AI credits from artists, we recommend you:

  • Use a neutral and supportive tone

  • Emphasize transparency to listeners

  • AI disclosure is currently optional. We’re actively developing our approach to AI-generated music, so this may change over time.

Delivery guidance

We recommend:

  • Role-level indicators (e.g. “This contribution was generated using AI”)

  • No open text fields

  • Support for multiple contributors per role where needed

Where AI credits appear

AI credits appear to listeners on mobile only while in beta:

  • Song Credits

  • The Now Playing view

They don’t appear on artist profiles or as track-level labels.

Backfill

It is not required to update existing catalog.

AI credits can be included in:

  • New releases

  • Redeliveries

Scope (beta)

At launch, AI credits:

  • Apply to audio only

  • Don’t include artwork or video

  • Are limited to credits surfaces

AI credits and AI Persona badges

AI credits and the AI Persona badge are separate features that address different questions: AI credits disclose how a track was made, while the AI Persona badge gives artists an opportunity to disclose and communicate their artistic identity to listeners. An artist can have one without the other. If you work with AI Persona artists, we strongly encourage you to support AI credits adoption as well; transparent disclosure at both the track and identity level builds listener trust and reflects Spotify's broader commitment to AI transparency.
